Kallie Turner is a Melbourne based artist; who uses unconventional materials and applies them in innovative ways to various support materials. Her work blurs the lines between two and three dimensionality creating a tactile experience for the viewer. Kallie grew up on a rural property 200km east of Perth. Her interest in art started at a young age, influenced by her father an accomplished fine wood sculptor.
Kallie completed her secondary studies at Methodist Ladies College, after which she attended Perths Curtin University of Technology. Here she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) degree. Kallie majored in printmaking; for which she received letters of commendation from the Dean of the Faculty and for her academic excellence; Kallie was awarded a cultural exchange to Dijon, France.
In 2006 Kallie participated in a second exchange programme to New York, where she studied ceramics and painting. It was during this time she began exploring and applying unconventional materials to her canvases. The raw/natural and decaying materials Kallie works with are a reflection of the landscape, which surrounded her during her childhood.
Currently Kallie practises her art in Melbourne and has exhibited in a number of group and solo shows. Her work continues to develop and evolve as she discovers and explores new materials and ideas.
